technical skills

etching

Familiar with Dutch Mortant and nitric acids. Experienced using rosin and spray paint aquatints, lift grounds (sugar lift and crayon), white ground, asphaltum grounds, smoked ball ground, Xerox transfers, soft ground, Moishe Smith ground, spit biting, a la poupee inking, multiple plate impressions, stencil rolls, waxing, chine colle, and Z-Acryl photo etching. 

lithography

Familiar with both stone (crayon, autographic ink, touché) and plate lithography. Also experienced in additive and subtractive matrix development, mixing of colored inks and photo plate exposure.

relief

Use of shina, various ply and solid woods, MDF,  as well as linoleum and cintra for woodcuts. Use of boxwood for engraving.  Skilled with additive and color reduction techniques, as well as registration techniques and ink modifiers.

serigraphy

Proficient with water based techniques, screen filler, drawing fluid, photoemulsion (Ulano TZ emulsion), screen/frame building, CYMK photographic transparencies using Photoshop, color reduction method, hand-cut “Rubylith” stencils.  Familiar with washing techniques and chemicals, water soluble markers, lyntex, and the “No Print” method.

miscellaneous printmaking skills

Competent in a variety of monotype methods including subtractive approaches using solvents and layers of inks, and additive methods involving stencils, numerous pulls, and inks varying in viscosity.

computer skills

Familiar with Quark Xpress 7.0, Photoshop CS2, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), Macintosh and PC operating platforms.

2006 - 2007

Assistant to photographer Ben Wooten on “Second Line”, a collaborative photographic workshop with The New Orleans Kid Camera Project.  Helped teach pinhole photography to groups of children ranging in age from five to eighteen, spread across seven hurricane affected wards of the city.

2004 – 2007

Member of “Fresh Hot Press”, University affiliated print club that raises money through print sales, organizes exhibitions, visiting artists, and conference trips.

2003 - Present

Selectively working on private commissions for murals and prints.

2003 - 2006

Private drawing instructor.  Taught fundamental drawing skills from studio at home.  Gesture and mass drawing, recognizing shapes and tones,  mastering scale and perspective problems by drawing outside and from still lifes, subtractive charcoal drawing, ink wash exercises, contour line drawing, one point perspective, and figure drawing.

2006

Participated in Southern Graphics Council Conference as an assistant to Lenore Thomas and Amanda Knowles (‘Experimental Etching Techniques Through Collaboration’).  Assisted with hanging shows, cleaning studios, and raising money through print sales.

2006

Art Club leader for CASPER (Collaborative After School Program Education and Recreation) a Madison Metropolitan School District program that provides homeless and at-risk elementary school children with extracurricular opportunities for education, recreation, community involvement and personal growth.  Art Club leader supervised and facilitated art projects for 15-20 first through third grade children.

2006

Featured local artist on Hartford WI public television station documentary.  Show highlights include biographical history and technical details of current work.

2005

Assisted visiting artist Michael Barnes. Worked in the studio with Barnes to edition a print for Fresh Hot Press.

Participated in print sale as contributor and volunteer to raise money for student travel to 2005 SGC Conference in Washington D.C.  Drove University Fleet van to conference, participated in open portfolio.
